It's from Allie Brosh's webcomic blog Hyperbole and a Half, from her 2010 post "This Is Why I'll Never Be an Adult", where the original line is "Clean ALL the things!" The format keeps her structure and swaps the verb. The top line is often the question, the bottom line the cry: "What do we want?" / "ALL THE THINGS!" Or just one line: "Buy all the things." "Delete all the things." "Study all the things." In the original comic, this burst of heroic energy lasts about one afternoon. It's followed by a crash, guilt and, eventually, no things being cleaned at all. That's why it's so relatable: the meme is the manic five minutes, and everyone knows the nap that comes next. **Why it caught on:** it's the perfect picture of ambition that's about to run out of steam.
