brace yourselves / forever alone day is coming
A Prepare yourself post.
Sean Bean as Ned Stark in HBO's Game of Thrones (2011), in furs, holding his sword and looking grim. The caption plays on his house's motto, "Winter is coming". Ned spent the first season warning everyone about the coming winter. On the internet, he warns about something much worse: whatever everyone is about to post. The top line is "Brace yourselves", the bottom line names what's coming, always in large numbers. "Brace yourselves" / "the Black Friday posts are coming." "Brace yourselves" / "the first-snow photos are coming." "Brace yourselves" / "the 'new year, new me' gym crowd is coming." He is never wrong. Whatever he announces always shows up, right on schedule. Somehow the man who saw every disaster coming in the show didn't see his own. Sean Bean has a long history with that. **Why it caught on:** everyone can see the predictable flood arriving, and it feels good to announce it first.
