Pink floyd? / I didn't know that was her last name
A Musically Oblivious 8th Grader post.
A photo of a smiling teenage girl with long blonde hair on a gray color wheel. She was simply a teenager in a photo; the character was invented by the captions, not by her. The joke: a kid who has heard of music, technically, but not of any musician older than her phone. Every band name is a riddle she solves wrong. The top line is a famous band, the bottom line her confident answer. "Pink Floyd?" / "I didn't know that was her last name." "Red Hot Chili Peppers?" / "No thanks, I don't like spicy food." "Green Day?" / "You mean St. Patrick's Day?" Bonus points for crediting a classic to whoever covered it last: "Oh, I've heard that song, it's from Shrek." Before anyone feels too superior, remember that every generation's thirteen-year-olds think the cover is the original. Somewhere, a fan of the Beatles once called something by Chuck Berry "that Beatles song". **Why it caught on:** music snobs finally got a target, and band names turned out to be full of accidental puns.
